Ghana

Cape Coast's heritage castles, Accra's calm pace, and West Africa's easiest entry point.

Ghana has quietly become one of West Africa's most approachable destinations for first-time visitors and diaspora travelers alike — English-speaking, politically stable, and centered on Accra, a capital with a noticeably calmer pace than many of its regional peers. Cape Coast and Elmina's heritage castles, a heavier but essential part of any visit, sit alongside Kakum National Park's rainforest canopy walkway for a full day trip from Accra.

Akosombo and Lake Volta, and the low-key beach town of Ada Foah, round out the shorter trips from the capital, while Kumasi's Ashanti cultural sites (Manhyia Palace, the kente-weaving village of Bonwire) are worth the longer drive or short flight for a deeper cultural trip.
